Membership & Planning

NY Metro Builds Bio+ (NYMBB+) aspires to educate an integrated base of real estate and life science professionals, increase the visibility of commercial life science opportunities, and grow life science real estate development in the Greater New York Metro Area and beyond.

Our members are a critical resource in helping to achieve these goals. This Committee will work to support members and expand membership while identifying topics and services important to members. NYMBB+ connects commercial life science opportunities to the Greater New York Metro’s real estate development community through events, research, reports and educational programs.

The Membership and Planning Committee will also help to organize and implement these activities as well as identify issues of importance and concern for the community.

Academic Medical Institutions

Over the last 20 years, much of the new life science development in New York City has been undertaken by the major academic and medical institutions, expanding the footprint of life sciences in the City, providing life science infrastructure and building spectacular new life science environments that are shaping the way research and healthcare delivery will be done in the future. The Builds Bio+ Academic Institutions Committee will work to foster relationships between academic institutions in the Greater New York Metro area and the local life science community to create opportunities for knowledge sharing and to help bridge the gap between institutional research, commercial technology development, and life science real estate development.

Meeting Time:

First Monday of each month at 4 pm
Monthly Meeting Minutes

Co-Chairs:
  • Trevor Boz, PE, PMP, LEED, AP, Senior Vice President, WSP - trevor.boz@wsp.com

Healthcare

The healthcare industry continues to evolve, as it responds to the twin mandates of serving a growing patient population, while mitigating the rapid increase in the price of the services it delivers.

With the growing impact of telemedicine, academic medical centers are being forced to change their business models and reduce cost. For the real estate industry, this means a shift in the kinds of spaces required for healthcare organizations, in response to accelerating patient loads and increased demand from tenants seeking new kinds of spaces.

The Healthcare Committee will track trends in the healthcare market and how it is affecting the delivery of healthcare in real estate environments.

Meeting Time:

Last Tuesday of each month at 9 am
Monthly Meeting Minutes

Life Sciences

Academic medical centers have initiated several new ventures over the last few years to commercialize technology developed by researchers in the Greater New York Metro area and start new companies. In addition to these efforts, more than 30 incubators have been formed or grown in the Greater New York Metro area.

The Life Sciences Leadership Committee will work to provide life science companies a path from incubator to step-out space and will initiate programming on topics of interest for start-up life science companies. This group will also help to track life science trends in the Greater New York Metro area as well as identify issues of importance that will support the formation and growth of new life science companies.

NY Metro Life Science Real Estate Subclusers

Developers, building owners, and institutions are responding to the strong life science market trends and forecast, expanding the Greater New York Metro life science footprint to meet the increasing demand for life science space in the Greater NY Metro area. These activities are taking place in a number of life science “subclusters” that are emerging throughout the city and surrounding environs: Long Island City, East Side Midtown, Manhattanville, West Side Midtown and Hudson Square, Brooklyn, Long Island, Jersey City, Westchester County, Southern CT and Philadelphia PA.

The Life Science Real Estate Subcluster Committees will track the life science activities and real estate development projects in these subclusters, to create a database of information for the life science and real estate communities.
